Wesley “Wes” Sczygelski, 67, of Merrill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was born on September 12, 1956, to the late Walter Sczygelski and Marilyn Fletcher in Merrill, Wisconsin.
Wes was known for his inventiveness and ingenuity. He was often referred to as a jack-of-all-trades and took much pride in his MacGyver skills. He had multiple careers including crane operator, handyman, contractor and he retired from being a welder and fabricator. After he retired, he converted his second bus into a motorhome and traveled to Tennessee for the winters. His passions included horses, woodworking, karaoke singing, country-western dancing and spending time with family and friends. He was a well-known jokester; all who knew him, or met him in passing, have a story or more to share.
Survivors include his companion, Arlene Vertz of Merrill; daughters, Rachel (Andy) Yach and Kaitlyn (Clint) White; brothers, Howard (Michelle) Sczygelski, William Sczygelski (Ann Pankow), and Monty (Joanne) Sczygelski; sisters, Linda Works, Twyla Sczygelski, and Chansa (Mark) Fredrick; sister-in-law, Joanne Sczygelski; grandchildren, Samantha and Trevor Yach and River White; along with many nieces and nephews. Wes was preceded in death by his father, Walter Sczygelski; mother, Marilyn Fletcher; brothers, Walter Sczygelski, Jr. and Leon Sczygelski.
A celebration of life will take place from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 1915 Perry Drive in Rothschild, WI. Wes’ family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mayo Clinic, Rochester for the exceptional end of life care he received.
