Nancy A. English

October 5, 1929 — April 26, 2022

Nancy English, age 92, of Merrill, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 26th at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill. She lived a full life, believed in Jesus as her Lord and Savior and loved her family with all her heart. Nancy was born October 5, 1929, in Rosendale, WI, daughter of Ansel and Elsie (Cobb) Atwater. She married Allison ‘Oopie’ English on May 28, 1949, at Christ United Methodist Church, Merrill. Survivors include sons, Dennis (Michelle) English, Bruce (Jean) English and daughter, Cindy (John) Swope, all of Merrill; nine grandchildren, Dennis (Nichole) English, Jr., Tim English, Heather Lloyd, Abby English, Marissa Swope (Ryan Young), Lindsay (Dan) Kalupa, Andi English (Dylan Koss), Chan (Jenna) Copas and Chandra (Craig Weden) Kressel; fifteen great-grandchildren, Allyson, Jillian, Ethan, Grace, Chase, Ayden, Emilie, Haley, Hannah, Jack, Finn, Erica, Logan, Ariel and Gunnar; two step great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy Gartmann, Merrill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard (Grace) English, Green Bay; as well as many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Allison ‘Oopie’ English; parents, Ansel and Elsie Atwater; siblings, Dorothy (Clifford) Bass, Marjorie (Arnie) Lawson, Donald (Anne) Atwater, and Mary (Harry) Gloyd. Nancy loved music and singing from the time she was a small child. This love followed her all the years of her life. She sang for various events in the Merrill area and was the founding member of the Merrill Sweet Adelines, as well as their director for many years. Nancy was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she volunteered as a Liturgist, sang in the choir and served on various committees. She was a member of the Methodist Women and in charge of many funeral luncheons over the years. Nancy was a past member of Merrill Christian Women’s Club and the Red Hatters. If asked what was most important to Nancy, she would always say that spending time with her family was her greatest joy. Her home was a special gathering place for her children and grandchildren, where wonderful memories were made. Nancy graduated from Merrill High School in 1947. Prior to retirement, Nancy worked as a bookkeeper at the Family Medical Clinic. After retirement, Nancy worked alongside her husband Oopie as a caretaker for John Figi’s property in Park Falls, as well as cleaning and maintenance for Lincoln Community Bank. The funeral service for Nancy English will be at 12:00 P.M., Noon, on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Christ United Methodist Church, Merrill. Pastor Mike Zahn will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the church. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
